It is on everyone’s lips: the rising cost of living and the price of heating. Living in a detached house, I can honestly say that it hasn’t been easy adapting to the new living costs. The heating of a 3-bedroom home has increased by 5 percent, and believe me, that is a lot. So, in the light of these new expenditures, I have started looking into different ways of reducing the cost of living. One thing that I found especially important was the house because in most cases it is the one thing that drains the family’s wallet. Cost efficient living means quite a few things and it is important to see it in the long run. There are a few things you should definitely pay attention to.

One, are your windows properly sealed? Most of the heat in your house escapes due to the poor sealing. Make sure the windows close tightly, and if not, go to your local hardware store and ask for some tools and advice on sealing.

Two, take a look into alternative heating sources. My house heats on petrol but since the price is nowadays pretty high, I have gotten a fireplace installed into the living room and the master bedroom. With this, however, you should be extremely careful because not any fireplace does the trick. It is utterly important to get a fireplace that reserves heat, yes, a reserving fireplace it is. It means that the fireplace truly heats and the warm air doesn’t escape. Here engineering plays a big role. That is why I chose a Finnish fireplace company called Uunisepät. Uunisepät gives a great importance to engineering and heat reserving materials so it was a natural choice for me, and plus Uunisepät installs their own fireplaces.

Three, use carpets. It is an old trick but works like a charm. But here you should also be wise about it: buy only wool carpets, such as Persian ones. Carpets not only help to isolate cold but are also nice to walk on.

So, wake up and stop spending unnecessarily on your house, instead, use the money to pamper yourself and your family!
