Finnish Traditions
May 26, 2012Every nation has its own habits and traditions, so do Finns. I love Finnish traditions and I greatly enjoy living by them. Some of the most exciting revolve around holidays, such as Christmas and Easter, but surprisingly many of them take place in the summer, too, when the family packs its car and heads to its summer cottage.
I love the tradition of going to the summer cottage. It has been part of my family’s traditions for as long as I can remember. The most vivid memories include things such as swimming in the lake, the one and only true Finnish sauna and grilling sausages. There is something truly special in the warm summer days by the sky blue lake in the Finnish countryside. However, as romantic as the sunny summer days sound, there is something very romantic and magical in rainy days, too. The sound of rain drops hitting the roof and the warmth and coziness of a fireplace is something truly capturing and so memorable that I can go back to those moments whenever I close my eyes.
A fireplace is something around which many of the best memories revolve around, at least when it comes to me. I love rainy days but only at the cottage when we grill sausages by the fire of our fireplace and drink some hot chocolate with marshmallows along with playing board games.
I don’t have a fireplace at my town house, which has bothered me for a while since I don’t have that much time to go to the summer cottage anymore. After some pondering, I have decided to take the decisive step and get a fireplace installed at my town house. I did some research on different companies but was recommended a Finnish company called Uunisepät. Uunisepät’s references are impressive and they are a very trusted company in Finland. So I decided to pay their store a visit. I almost immediately found the model to suit my home, which I was very pleased with. Also, the professionals at Uunisepät would come to take the measurements and install the fireplace, so I wouldn’t have to try to figure out what to do next, especially since I am not a professional when it comes to fireplaces.
